Hugh Davies is an artist, curator, and researcher. Working across digital media, academic scholarship, and creative practice, he explores the social, cultural, and political dimensions of art and technology. With sustained research residencies at Tokyo Art and Space (Tokyo) the East China Normal University (Shanghai) and the Hong Kong Design Trust (Hong Kong) his work in deeply influenced by art and games from across the Asia Pacific region. Davies recently created a sculptural game exhibited at the Centre for Heritage, Art and Textiles (CHAT, Hong Kong) (2021-22) and has curated a collection of games at the Hong Kong M+ Museum of Visual Culture (2021-22). 

With a history of leadership roles in media production, arts management and museum consultancy, Davies brings his extensive knowledge and experience into tertiary education contexts. In addition to extensive university lecturing internationally, he has co-authored two books: Understanding Games and Game Cultures (2021) and Exploring Minecraft, Ethnographies of Play (2020). He is currently a research fellow with a focus on Chinese Platform Studies at RMIT in Melbourne. He has been elected president of the Chinese Digital Games Research Association (CDiGRA).
